Sender Settings

The person will know that the text message came from you if:

  • You send a text message from your personal mobile number and the recipient has already added you to his phone’s contact list.
  • You send a text message from your dedicated number and the recipient has already added you to his phone’s contact list.
  • You send a text message from a Sender ID – your company’s name.

If none of the above is the case, we recommend adding your name into the SMS body.

You can receive replies and incoming SMS from your clients.

If you use a share reply number, you can only receive replies to the messages you have sent earlier. All replies will be displayed in SMS Chat.

If you have purchased a dedicated number, your clients can contact you whenever they need. All incoming messages will be displayed in SMS Chat. You can send and receive SMS using a dedicated number.

All shared numbers belong to TextMagic. They can be used by any TextMagic customer. Shared reply numbers are included with your SMS package. You can only receive replies to the messages you have sent earlier. All replies will be displayed in SMS Chat.

TextMagic offers dedicated numbers for more than 25 countries. Dedicated number can be used only by one business at a time. The price for a dedicated number starts at 2 GBP per month.

Dedicated number is an essential component for two-way messaging. You can send and receive messages to or from anyone. All incoming messages will be displayed in SMS Chat.

You need to adjust Sender settings.

You can send SMS using your company name if you use a Sender ID.

You can apply for up to ten Sender IDs per account. The maximum length of a Sender ID is 11 characters. You can apply for a Sender ID here.

Sender ID might get filtered out by some network providers. Please test sender ID before using it.

Account Management

To update your personal details, please:

  1. Navigate to the Account details page.
  2. Click “Edit contact details”. Change desired information and save changes.
  3. Click “Edit VAT information”. Change desired information and save changes.
  4. Click “Edit billing details”. Change desired information and save changes.

You can create two types of sub-accounts for your team members:

  • administrator – will have access to all TextMagic features, including payments and sub-accounts.
  • regular user – will have access to all TextMagic features, except for payments and other sub-accounts.

TextMagic credit will be shared equally among all sub-accounts.

Email to SMS

To start sending SMS from an email address, follow these steps:

  • Firstly add email address that you would like to use with the service:
    1. Go to “Services” and click “Email to SMS“.
    2. Click Add allowed emails. Email to SMS Settings
    3. Enter an email address and click Save. Email to SMS allowed list
  • Start composing a text message as a regular email: Add recipient’s address as countrycodephonenumber@textmagic.com (447971001234@textmagic.com as an example).

You can send SMS using any email application or email client: Outlook, Hotmail, Gmail, Apple Mail, etc.

An email distribution list is used to:

  • Forward important emails from any service to your mobile phone as texts.
  • Notify everyone via SMS in 1 click.

With TextMagic “Email to SMS” service you can send and receive text messages from your email account to mobile phones, without the need to install any software.

Our “Email to SMS” system recognises and excludes most standard footers, but if this does not work with your particular footer there is always the option of introducing a cut-line. We recognise a new line followed by a minimum of five hyphens as the end of the text message. Everything down to, but not including, the cut-line will be sent.

So in the example below, only “My text message” will be sent.

Our web interface is supported on the latest browser versions of:

If you send SMS to a foreign country enter the mobile phone number in one of the following formats:

  • +4479XXXXXXX (“+CountryCodeMobilePhonenumber”, without leading zeroes or spaces)

If you send SMS to your home country enter the mobile phone number in one of the following formats:

Two-way messaging works if you use a dedicated or a shared reply number as a sender option. With a dedicated number anyone can send you SMS or reply to your previously sent SMS. With a shared reply number, you must send your SMS first and then the recipient will be able to reply to you.

SMS software for PC and Mac

You must have a TextMagic account first before downloading the software.

Please note, TextMagic Messenger works only with an internet connection. The contact list is saved locally on the PC, where you use TextMagic Messenger. TextMagic Messenger can be downloaded here.

We offer two versions of TextMagic Messenger:

When you send a text message using TextMagic Messenger enter the mobile phone number in the format of “countrycodemobilephonenumber”.

Examples: 44797123456 (UK number), 19171234567 (US number).

SMS Gateway API

TextMagic offers an option to integrate SMS gateway to your application. You can use free SMS scripts of Java, Ruby, PHP, Python, and Perl to connect with our Bulk SMS Gateway.

To change your API password please:

  1. Navigate to API settings page.
  2. Select “Generate new API password”. API
  3. Verify your TextMagic account password and click “Generate„ Generate new API key
  4. You will be issued with a new API password. API key

Billing & pricing

We use Bibit, which processes payments on our behalf. Bibit is part of the Royal Bank of Scotland Group, which utilises the highest level of security.

TextMagic servers are held in a secure environment with limited access.

We assure you that no sensitive information can be used or even accessed by any third party, unless requested by the police.

This information is protected by our company employees and professional security software.

- Data transfer between customer’s PC and our servers is encrypted (256-bit SSL certificate issued by GlobalSign).

- We use McAfee Secure service, which constantly scans our servers for security.

Pay-as-you-go (PAYG) is when you pay in advance of the service use.

You are not tied into paying for a certain amount of texts each month and you can stop the service whenever you want.

TextMagic offers a 100% pay-as-you-go service.

Unfortunately we do not offer post-pay contracts. Our service is 100% prepaid.

In order to make the payment, please visit the Pricing page and follow the on-screen instructions. We offer a pay-as-you-go service and accept the following payment methods:

  • Regular bank transfer

Please note that payment methods may vary by region.

We do not keep your credit card details on file, unless auto-recharge is enabled.

For your convenience we do recommend you enable the auto-recharge feature, which will top up your account automatically when the balance falls under a specific level.

Auto-recharge automatically tops up your account with credit when your balance falls below a certain amount.

This ensures that you never run out of credit and prevents unexpected service interruption.

Auto-recharge works with credit cards and PayPal. With auto-recharge, your credit card or PayPal account is debited in the same way as if you were making a manual purchase, but with auto-recharge enabled, you don´t need to approve each recharge.

Be aware that automatically recharging your credit is not the same thing as having a subscription although both involve recurring payments.

We always send balance reminders once your balance falls below 15% of your last order. We also allow you to enable auto-recharge to avoid service interruptions and ensure all your SMS messages are delivered on time.

If you add your card to your TextMagic account, it is not stored directly on TextMagic servers. Credit card details are stored in a separate PCI-compliant and extra secure Spreedly server.

UK customers

All customers from the UK will be charged VAT 20%.

EU customers

All customers making purchases in the EU will be charged VAT at the standard 20% UK rate.

In order to avoid paying VAT, you need to enter your company registered VAT number to your Account page.  Once this is done you will no longer be charged VAT.

Customers outside EU

Customers outside EU will not be charged VAT.

You are able to see and print all your invoices and transactions on your Invoices page.

When you send group SMS, your account balance is deducted in accordance with the:

  • Text message length
  • Text message destination
  • Number of recipients

If you buy a dedicated inbound number, you are charged for it on a monthly basis, always on the same date when you originally purchased the number.

Please note, that when your subscription renews, we are deducting credit from your TextMagic account balance, not your card/PayPal.

Please be aware that if your account balance becomes too low to renew the number, we reserve the right to cancel it permanently.

To avoid number cancellation, we recommend you to enable auto-recharge.

Consumed funds are not refundable under any circumstances.

We will refund unused credits if requested.

If you would like to have your credit balance refunded, please send an email to support@textmagic.com. Please include your name, company name, email address and the reason for wanting a refund. We reserve the right to take up to seven business days to process any refund requests.

You will receive your refund using the payment method you used to purchase the credit. For example, if payment was made by credit card, we shall reverse credit the amount of your unused credit to the credit card used to purchase the credit.

Contacts

Rather than adding contacts one by one you can import them in bulk from following file types: *.xls, *.xlsx, *.csv. Learn how to import contacts.

You are able to assign contacts to specific lists based on your need. Later you are able to send messages to your whole list with one click. Learn how to use lists.

TextMagic does not set any limits on how many contacts you can store. Go ahead and store as many as you need.

If you do not have your contacts database set up yet, you can place a TextMagic form on your website to gain more opt-ins. You can read more about these forms here.

People can simply opt out from your communication by replying STOP to any of your messages. Once they have opted out, you cannot send messages to these contacts anymore. If you have opted out by accident, please contact us and we will assist you further.

We can guarantee that text messages are sent off instantly, within seconds, once we receive a request from you.

Messages are normally delivered within a few seconds as well, as long as the recipient’s phone is in the coverage area. We cannot guarantee the delivery time though, since it depends on network conditions, which are outside of our control.

The delivery status of text messages can be always monitored in our Web-App and using API.

Please find below the delivery statuses that are available online with explanations:

  • Delivered – the text messages has been sent  and the mobile operator confirmed the delivery.
  • Accepted – the text message has been sent, however the mobile operator has not delivered it yet. Most common reason: the mobile phone is switched off, is out of the coverage area, or the mobile provider is experiencing difficulties. Sometimes the final delivery notification may take up to 12 hours, depending on the mobile operator, which we do not control.
  • Failed – the text message has been sent but the mobile operator was unable to deliver it. Most common reason: the mobile phone is switched off, is out of the coverage area or the mobile provider is experiencing difficulties.
  • Rejected – the SMS was rejected by the mobile operator or TextMagic. Most common reasons: recipient has opted out from your list or the mobile number belongs to “Do not Disturb” registry.

If you use API, you can request SMS delivery notification via receive command or via callback URL. The API will respond with a single letter. Get more details here.

If you use a standard GSM 03.38 character set, single text messages are limited to 160 characters, including spaces. The maximum length of a text message is 918 characters including spaces.

The maximum length of two-part, three-part, four-part, five-part and six-part concatenated text messages is 306 (2 x 153), 459 (3 x 153), 612 (4 x 153), 765 (5 x 153) and 918 (6 x 153) characters, respectively.

Each concatenated text message is limited to 153 characters rather than 160 due to the need for user-data headers (UDHs) information. Mobile phones use UDH information to enable them to link long messages together so that they appear as single SMS messages in recipients’ phone inboxes.

The standard character set includes the Roman alphabet and the most common accented forms, certain special characters, and the Greek alphabet. It includes the following characters:

Standard GSM 03.38 character set

Using unicode, for such languages as Russian, Arabic, or Chinese will restrict your message to a maximum of 70 characters per SMS.

You can send longer text messages, with our system splitting them into two or at the most four separate text messages.

The maximum lengths of two-part, three-part, four-part, five-part and six-part concatenated unicode text messages are 134 (2 x 67), 201 (3 x 67), 268 (4 x 67), 335 (5 x 67) and 402 (6 x 67) characters, respectively.

By using unicode, TextMagic is able to support sending SMS in any language.
